Enter client data to calculate BMI, energy, and nutrition needs.
BMI: kg/m²
BMI-for-Age Percentile:
BMI Z-score:
BMI Category:
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR): kcal/day
Estimated Energy Needs (EER): kcal/day
* Serving sizes for younger children may be distributed in smaller portions throughout the day.
BMI & Growth:
BMI is calculated as weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. Percentile and z-scores are computed using the CDC LMS method for ages 2-20 years, with a simplified data set embedded in the app. The BMI category logic includes support for the extended charts for severe obesity (BMI $\geq$ 120% of the 95th percentile or BMI $\geq$ 35 kg/m²).
Energy Requirements:
**BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)** is estimated using WHO equations for children and the Mifflin-St Jeor equation for adolescents (13+ years). **EER (Estimated Energy Requirements)** is calculated by multiplying the BMR by an appropriate Physical Activity (PA) factor.
Macronutrient Needs:
Macronutrient needs (protein, carbohydrates, and fat) are derived from the Estimated Energy Requirements (EER) using the Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Ranges (AMDRs) for each age group.
Fluid Needs:
Fluid needs are estimated using the Holliday-Segar method based on body weight in kilograms.
Micronutrient Needs:
Micronutrient needs are based on the latest Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) from the National Academy of Medicine, including Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs) and Adequate Intakes (AIs).
Daily Food Group Needs (MyPlate):
Food group recommendations are based on USDA MyPlate for Kids guidelines, with amounts scaled to the client's calculated EER.
